Host Organizations

Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Providers of New York State, (ASAP) is an organization committed to working with one voice in support of organizations, groups and individuals that work to prevent and alleviate the profound personal, social and economic consequences of adolescent and adult substance use disorders in New York State. ASAP provides support and services to the largest alcoholism and  substance use services system in the United States, which serves 2.5 million New Yorkers annually. In addition, ASAP actively works to shape state and federal public policies that affect the provision of and access to substance use prevention, treatment and recovery services. We have relationships with service coalitions in every region of the state and use those local relationships as a catalyst to mobilize grassroots advocacy, capitalize on local/regional media opportunities, and help to generate consensus about the need for change.

The New York Society of Addiction Medicine (NYSAM) is an organization of physicians from all medical specialties, dedicated to understanding and preventing addiction problems and to improving addiction treatment. NYSAM is a State Chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine. New York is where the American Society of Addiction Medicine began in 1954. The New York Society of Addiction Medicine acts locally and regionally to foster ASAM’s national efforts. As NYSAM members we gather together, combine our experience and expertise, associate with noted researchers in addiction medicine, and organize ourselves to contribute to effective solutions to addiction problems for our communities and our patients.

Friends of Recovery-New York (FORNY) is a 501(c)(3), not‐for‐profit organization representing a statewide coalition of people in recovery from addiction. Our community includes people in recovery, our families, friends and allies. We come together from across New York State to ensure that any person struggling with addiction has the opportunity to recover and reclaim life as a member of society. FOR‐NY is dedicated to promoting policies and practices supporting a vision of recovery from addiction. We envision a world where every person in need has access to an entire spectrum of effective, recovery focused services, where people in recovery are free to pursue a meaningful life and can experience recovery as a
celebrated reality in society.

Welcome to the New York Society of Addiction Medicine’s website

The New York Society of Addiction Medicine (NYSAM) is an organization of physicians in New York State from all medical specialities, dedicated to understanding and preventing addiction problems and to improving addiction treatment. NYSAM is a State Chapter of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

The site is less than a year old, but is already a useful resource. We are actively soliciting content from our members, so send us items for the News page, and please make use of our Classifieds section.

Many pages have related links and resources, in particular the Science journal. You'll find topical articles on the Public Policy page, where you can access policy materials such as NYSDOH bulletins, NYS legislation/bills, NYSAM memoranda and position papers, published articles, and more. The Upcoming page will help members stay informed of NYSAM events, CME and meetings. We are building contacts with Regional groups (New Jersey and New England) and welcome your submissions for addiction medicine-related groups, organizations, events and meetings.

More about the site

We envision the NYSAM website will: increase communication among the membership; streamline the distribution of important and time-sensitive news and information; increase interest in becoming a NYSAM member; offer advocacy tools; and, will generally be an indispensable membership resource.

Get involved!

We need feedback, ideas, and engagement. We believe this will continue to be a great member resource. Please bookmark us, visit often, contribute content, contact us and tell your colleagues about us. Keep an eye on your email inbox for updates, and if you'd like to get involved, please get in touch.
